Aeon’s 2012 Building Community Award

MPHA Executive Director/CEO, Cora McCorvey was awarded Aeon’s 2012 Building Community Award at Aeon’s Annual Meeting and Celebration on March 27, 2012. The award recognizes an outstanding advocate for affordable housing in the local community. The award was designed by an Aeon resident, Craig Navia Jacobson. To read more about the event, click here

Thomas T. Feeney Manor

A first-in-the-nation assisted living/memory care public housing development.

Thomas T. Feeney Manor is a four-story 48 one-bedroom unit development specifically designed for seniors needing enhanced assisted living or memory care assistance.

Thomas T. Feeney Manor is located in Heritage Park in Near north Minneapolis and is part of a newly developed senior campus that includes Heritage Park Senior Services Center and MPHA’s 102-unit senior housing development, Heritage Commons at Pond’s Edge.

Thomas T. Feeney Manor will incorporate ‘green’ technologies with building designs that will respond to the unique needs of this vulnerable population.

MPHA and its partners have designed and built a benchmark ‘green’ building that will demonstrate energy savings, create a health environment, utilize renewable energy resources, such as solar and geothermal, and enhance the local ecosystems through innovative storm water management systems.

MPHA plans to host a Grand Opening celebration for its Thomas T. Feeney Manor along with Heritage Park Senior Service Center in late spring or early summer of 2012.

In celebration of its 20th Anniversary as an independent agency, MPHA has created a book which includes historical information about public housing in Minneapolis and showcases many of the agency’s most significant accomplishments for each of those twenty years.

Heritage Park Senior Services Center

MPHA has completed construction of its new state-of-the-art Senior Services Center in Heritage Park, North Minneapolis. The center is a fully accessible senior health and wellness center with underground parking on existing MPHA property adjacent to its 102-unit Heritage Commons at Pond’s Edge senior development in Heritage Park.

The Center will house a health clinic, adult daycare program, fitness programs, a therapy pool as well as provide office and program space for various social services providers. The senior center will create a large multipurpose gathering space to engage seniors in a variety of social, educational and recreational activities.

MPHA has developed partnerships with local organizations in healthcare, fitness and elderly services including Neighborhood HealthSource Inc., YMCA of Metropolitan Minneapolis, Augustana Care corporation, Courage Center and the Minneapolis Highrise Representative Council.

The Senior Center will serve the over 400 elderly public housing residents who live in North Minneapolis as well as other low-income seniors in the community. It will help anchor future development in the Heritage Park Community and provide a valuable and important resource as residents of the community grow older and need additional supports.
