Termination of Assitance Process

Program Terminations

If you are a Section 8 HCV Participant and you received a letter notifying you that your assistance is being terminated, Please be aware you have only 10 business days from the date of the termination letter to request, in writing, an informal hearing.

Requests for hearings received after the 10 business days will not be accepted.

Failure of a participant to respond to a termination letter will result in the participant’s termination from the Section 8 HCV Programs.

The Process

  1. Nondisclosure Meeting – an informal meeting will be held to present evidence of failure to follow family obligations and an opportunity will be given to contest the evidence
  2. Termination of Assistance – a notification will be sent that assistance is being terminated, including reference to the specific family obligation or regulation that was violated
  3. Family Request for Hearing –  within 10 business days of the date of the termination letter, a family may request, in writing, an informal hearing
  4. Informal Hearing – a third-party mediator will uphold or reverse the decision to terminate assistance based on evidence provided by the family and by Section 8 HCV staff
